Flagstaff, AZ – Young Readers Council teams up with Books From The Hearth to give each 2nd grader in the FUSD a personalized storybook. Books from the Hearth, a provider of personalized story books is working with the Young Readers Council to provide free books to the second grade students in FUSD through the Home Run Against Drugs Give-A-Book Program. Good reading practices develop at an early age, and personalized books help to capture a child's imagination, getting them 'hooked on books" instead of getting 'hooked on drugs.'
The book to be given, “Homer and Me - A Day In The Park", is an integral part of the Home Run Against Drugs program. It promotes healthy lifestyle choices in a sports theme. Each 32 page book is personalized with the child's name, names of friends/classmates, their age and the city in which they live.
The Program is free of charge to FUSD and the students. Funding is provided through private donations, grants, and fund raising efforts by the Young Readers Council. Books from the Hearth will be publishing the books. Lorraine Blume, Principal of Griffith Elementary School in Las Vegas, NV stated, “As I walked through the classrooms after the assembly, students could not be pulled away from their books. It is no wonder that with each child costarring with Homer in a book of his/her very own, the books will be reread and cherished for many years to com. This repetition builds reading fluency and will reinforce the health message of Homer. With the consistent rereading, we are especially appreciative that these fine books are hardbound!” Dawn Holland owner of Books from the Hearth states, “We are glad to be a partner in providing these books to the school district. Everyone benefits when children learn to love to read.” For more information on the Home Run Against Drugs Program or on how to sponsor a child, please call Dawn Holland (928) 607-1808 or email her at dawn@booksfromthehearth.com
